Christian Biography of Henry M. "Bud" Wehrman

Henry Michael Wehrman, the son of Henry and Myrtle (Philpot) Wehrman, was born on October 6, 1936 on the farm near Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away on November 15, 2025 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 1 month, 9 days.

Bud was a Nelson High School graduate. On October 2, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Jacquelyn Svendsen at the First Presbyterian Church in Nelson Nebraska.  This union was blessed with two sons, Henry Philip and Von Jeffrey.

Bud lived a long, full, and purpose-driven life rooted in faith, family hard work, and the land he loved.   He was a man of character-resilient and endlessly generous.  To know him was to know someone who cared deeply worked tirelessly.  When the love of his life passed away in March of 2022, it was very hard on him.  He would often say how much he missed her smell, her touch and just being nearby.   He was ready to go to his eternal home.

Bud served on the Nelson Farmers Union Co-op Board for 12 years and was a proud member of both the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association and the Nebraska Pork Producers. His passion was feeding cattle for more than 63 years, caring for them as only a man who truly loved what he was doing could. Feeding cattle was never a job for Bud, but a calling. He always said, "Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life."

Later in life, Bud became interested in antique tractor pulling. This new hobby brought out his competitive side, gave him great joy, and led to many lasting friendships. He traveled to compete in numerous local meets, and his hard work and determination paid off when he won a national championship in Amarillo, Texas.

Bud also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing beautiful flowers. He loved delivering asparagus and floral arrangements—carefully arranged by him in vases—to neighbors and those he cared about. On Christmas Eve, he made sure the girls in his family had corsages made of red roses. He was especially thoughtful in providing flowers during that time to the people who took care of him.

Another favorite routine Bud developed later in life was going in for coffee at the C-Store or breakfast at D & D's and visiting with his friends.  No matter the weather was doing, rain, snow, or bitter cold, he showed up.

Bud escaped death many times, a testament to his resilience, determination, and unbelievable strength. He survived eight major surgeries after his 65th birthday. In addition to his hard work, Bud exercised every day, and his response to questions about his health and determination was always, "Don't let the old man in."

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Myrtle; his wife Jacquelyn; sister Roberta, Maude, Billie and an infant child.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Henry Philip (Diane) and Von Jeffrey (Dawn) both of Nelson; four grandchildren, Nick Wehrman, Victoria (Darin) Jolly, Jarrod (Sydney) Wehrman, Natasha (Colby)Frei; seven great grandchildren, Kade, Eli and Noah Jolly, Leni, Henry and Paxton Wehrman and Lydia Frei; many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
