Christian Biography of Hilda A. Rempe
Hilda Agnes Rempe, the daughter of Christopher and Sophia (Stritt) Ostdiek, was born on August 29, 1913, on a farm near Lawrence, Nebraska. She passed away on September 20, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 101 years and 21 days.
Hilda was one of 12 children. She was a member of the Catholic Church all of her life being baptized on September 2, 1913, by Rev. Alois Hahn and confirmed in 1923 by Bishop Bonacom at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Lawrence and later a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence, transferring her membership to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior where she was a current member. Hilda attended grade school at St. Stephen's Parochial School in Lawrence.
She was united in marriage to Richard H. Rempe on July 10, 1934, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Lawrence, Nebraska. Together they raised their family and moved to Superior in 1955. At different times during her lifetime, Hilda was a homemaker, telephone operator, ammunition inspector at the Naval Ammunition Depot and a grocery store clerk. She was a member of the Altar Societies of Sacred Heart Parish and St. Joseph's Parish. She was also a member of Alanon and a sponsor for Alateen. She resided at the Superior Good Samaritan Society since February of 2009.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard on October 29, 1988; brothers Ferdinand, Lawrence, Alphonse, Ernest, Hubert, Clarence, and William, and unnamed infant boy; and her sisters, Kathryn, Dora, and Leona, and one son-in-law, Maurice Kroening.
She is survived by her children Geraldine Kroening of Derby, Kansas, Richard J. Rempe and wife Caroline of Superior, Nebraska, Sister Richardine (Luella) Rempe of Pico Rivera, California, Fr. Melvin Rempe of Omaha, Nebraska, Rosemary Martin and husband Dan of Jacksonville, Florida and Vern Rempe and wife Doris of Grand Island, Nebraska. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and11 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Fr. Melvin Rempe officiating, Mel Menke was lector.
Music will be "I Am The Bread Of Life," "Blest Are They," "Be Not Afraid," "Amazing Grace-recording by Il Divo," and "How Great Thou Art." with Jacki Fish as the organist and Arnold Miller as the song leader.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 4-6 at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home.
Rosary Service will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Pallbearers are Jim Kroening, Ron Kroening, Mike Martin, Christopher Rempe, Nicholas Rempe, and Kevin Rempe. Honorary Pallbearers were Ron Keller, Bob Rader, Mike Kealey, Dave Essay, Chris Vallejo, Tim Anders, Steve Coates and Sean Siefried.
Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to: Superior Good Samaritan Society of Superior, Nebraska, St. Joseph's Altar Society of Superior, Nebraska, or the Hilda A. Rempe and Richard H. Rempe Endowment at Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence, Nebraska.
