Christian Biography of Jackie R. Sorensen

Jacqueline Raye Sorensen, the daughter of Wilford and Agnes (McCann) Greenrod, was born on December 2, 1938 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She passed away on June 12, 2017 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 78 years and 6 months.

Jackie attended and graduated from the Nebraska City School System. She was baptized as an infant at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Nebraska. Jackie was united in marriage to Karl Sorensen on December 28, 1955 in Nebraska City. This union was blessed with three children: Karen, Karla, and Michael.

Jackie enjoyed playing the piano and organ and she loved to bake, read, work puzzles, and embroidery. Jackie and Karl enjoyed traveling together and enjoyed the outdoors. Jackie was a member of many clubs and church organizations.

In her lifetime, Jackie lived in Syracuse, Nebraska City, San Rafael, California, Denver and Elizabeth Colorado, and Nelson, Nebraska before moving to Parkview Haven in Deshler.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Karl in March 2008, and grandson Kyle in January 2006.

She is survived by her daughters Karen Berends and husband Kent of Kiowa, Colorado, and Karla DeVaney and husband Mike DeVaney of Nelson, Nebraska, her son Michael Sorensen and wife Sharon of Durham, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, Kelly Backlund (Jesse), Kendra Forney (Scott), Keri Bell (Silvan), Janelle McKenna (Matthew), Sarah Cornelius (DJ), Wade Sorensen (Tania), Lee Sorensen, Gage Montoya (Sara), and Kelsey Ullom (Dustin), and 15 ½ great grandchildren; her sister Lana Roumpf and husband Kent of Nebraska City, Nebraska, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Pastor Ivan Dean officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jackie's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Inurnment will be in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
