Christian Biography of James Franklin Grisham

James Franklin Grisham, the son of Claude and Viola (Wiggins) Grisham, was born on May 6, 1927 in Billings, Oklahoma. He passed away on November 17, 2013 at Perkins Good Samaritan Home in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 6 months, 11 days.

He attended High School in Windom, Kansas. Thereafter he enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 where he later served in Korea.

On September 15, 1967 Jim married Barbara "Snavely" Thelander at the Baptist Church in Superior, Nebraska. To this union a daughter was born. Through previous marriages Jim had a son and two daughters and Barbara had three sons.

Jim loved fishing, hunting, camping, cooking, and spending time teaching others how to enjoy his hobbies. He was the jack of all trades! There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. During his lifetime he was the member of the American Legion where he served as Past Commander. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association.

He was employed at Champlin Petroleum for many years. After retirement he was employed by Superior Police Department, managed the Deluxe Liquor Store, and worked at the State Line Station where he made many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Viola Grisham; his sister Lenora Lundy;; his in-laws Raymond and Inez Snavely; sister-in-law Janice Snavely Bussard, and son-in-law Mike Jacoby.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Grisham of Hastings, Nebraska; four sons, Craig and wife Dixie Grisham, Superior, Nebraska; Kent and wife Nancy Thelander, Hastings Nebraska; Rod and wife Mary Thelander, Wichita, Kansas; Brook and wife Connie Thelander, Eagle, Idaho; three daughters Marsha Jacoby, Superior, Nebraska; Kim Tinsley (Roger Amack), Superior, Nebraska; Becky Grisham Dessel (Rick Giger), Guide Rock, NE; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Rod & Brook Thelander officiating.

Recorded music by Howard and Alicia Reed was "Why Me Lord," "Grandpa," and "If We Never Meet Again."

Visitation was held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Pallbearers were Michael Webber, Christopher Humphries, Brady Thelander, Bryson Dessel, Troy Hilligas and Mark Hawkins. Honorary Pallbearers were Jim's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
