Christian Biography of James E. Harris

James Everett Harris, known as Jim by his closest family and friends, passed away on November 12, 2023 at Legacy Arbors Memory Care Community in Lincoln at the age of 84 years 6 months and 27 days.

Jim was born on April 16, 1939 to Frank Rife Harris and Dorothy Ruth (Short) Harris.  Jim grew up on the family farm North of Nelson with his parents, his older sister Margaret and his younger brother Glenn.  Jim graduated from Nelson High School in 1956 and immediately joined the Navy in June as a Kiddie Cruiser.  In the Navy he was an Aviation Electronic Technician 2nd Class on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger.  While Jim was stationed in Memphis, TN, he met and married Barbara Jane Bowers in 1957. Jim was honorably discharged one month before his 21st birthday in 1960 and he and Barb returned to Nelson to take over his family dairy farm. They were blessed with four children: Kathy, Jeff, Gerry and David.  The family spent many hardworking years on the farm and created many great memories.

The family farm was sold in 1984.  Jim then worked at the Meat Animal Research Center as a security guard attached to the Clay County Sheriff's Department in Clay Center, NE.  In 1988, Jim married Agnes Archer and they resided in Hastings until their divorce in 2018.  He then moved to the Legacy Terrace Retirement Community in Lincoln and became neighbors with his sister Margaret.

Jim is survived by his sister Margaret Harris Caldwell; brother Glenn and sister-in-law Piedad Harris; daughter Kathy Inhofe and grandchildren Jonathan, Sarah and Carl; son Jeff, daughter-in-law Linda Harris and grandchildren Laura, Jace and Nichole; son Gerry, daughter-in-law Jeri Harris and grandchildren Everett, Landry and Luke; son David, daughter-in-law Linda Harris and grandchildren Andrew, Jill and Ryan; and many other family and friends.
