Christian Biography of James E. Harvey
James Elwood Harvey, the son of William and Minnie (Herron) Harvey, was born on June 22, 1924 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on February 18, 2017 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 7 months, 27 days.
Jim was a Superior High School graduate, and a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Superior, being baptized in May of 1958 by Pastor Robert Hibbeler and confirmed in 1962 in the Episcopal Church in Norton, Kansas by Father James Leach. Jim enlisted with the United States Navy on June 7, 1942 serving during World War II and was honorably discharged on December 12, 1945.
On February 16, 1946 he was united in marriage to Alicemarlyn "Lynn" Landin in Denver, Colorado and to this union was born two children, Kathleen and Michael.
Jim was employed with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as a materials technician. He was a member of the Superior American Legion, the Masons and the Superior Country Club. Jim was an avid golfer and life-time member of the Country Club, and was instrumental in building and caring for the "Veterans Memorial," in the Lincoln Park with the help of the American Legion and city of Superior. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Hawaii. He and Lynn loved a good adventure. During his lifetime, Jim lived in the communities of Superior, Concordia, Kansas, Denver, Colorado, Norton, Kansas, Basalt, Colorado, Chama, New Mexico, Snyder, Oklahoma, Forest Grove, Oregon and Ord, Nebraska. In December of 2016, Jim resided at Wild Ridge Estates in Superior.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynn on July 29, 2007; infant brother and sister, Billie Maxey.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen and husband Col. Donnie Courson US Army (Ret.) of Douglas, Georgia and son, Michael Harvey of Superior, Nebraska; brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces, and nephews.
Memorial service with Masonic rites was held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 2:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Irvin Schleufer officiating.
Music was "Amazing Grace," "You Have Come down To the Lakeshore," and "The Hymn of Promise," with Carlita Price as the organist.
Inurnment with Full Military Honors was held in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
