Christian Biography of James Maley

James Donald Maley, the son of Stewart and Fay (Broyles) Maley, was born on August 18, 1921 on a farm near Cawker City and Downs, Kansas. He passed away on July 29, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village at the age of 90 years, 11 months, 11 days.

James attended country school thru the eighth grade in Beloit, Kansas. He was inducted into the United States Army on October 27, 1942 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and before he entered active duty he was married to Edna Margaret Wolf on November 1, 1942 in Smith Center, Kansas, this union was blessed with two children. James was honorably discharged from the service on October 22, 1945 at Camp Crowder, Missouri earning the Distinguished Unit Badge.

After the service James was employed at Ideal Cement Plant in Superior as a Maintenance Engineer.

He was a 60 year member of the First Baptist Church in Superior, serving as a Deacon, Usher and Trustee and the Men's Fellowship, the American Legion Post #103, and the Boy Scouts of America.

James was involved in crafting, especially creating beautiful and unique woodworking pieces. He and Edna participated in craft shows for close to 30 years. Together they enjoyed camping, especially in the Ozarks and gardening.

They presently made their home in the Hastings Village.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister's Iris Thompson and Shirley Maley, and brother's Eugene Harvey and Carl Steward Maley.

He is survived by his wife Edna of Hastings, daughter Joyce Ann Rumbaugh and husband Jerry of Dodge City, Kansas and son Larry Lee of Hastings, four grandchildren: Jeff Rumbaugh, Jay Rumbaugh, Jennifer Rumbaugh, and Travis Maley; eight great grandchildren: Tanner, Lauren, and Blake Rumbaugh and Marquis, Messina, Mariana and Mariela Maley and Vinny Lyman; one great great grandchild Kiara Lyman; sisters Wanda Lee Sporleder of Beloit, Kansas and Patricia Kirk of Houston, Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 10:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Floyd Richardson officiating.

Music was "In The Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Beverly Rogers as song leader and Carlita Erickson as organist.

Visitation was held on August 1, 2012 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Pallbearers were Jeff Rumbaugh Jay Rumbaugh, Marquis Maley, Tanner Rumbaugh, Blake Rumbaugh, and Joe Rossi. Honorary Pallbearers were Travis Maley and Jennifer Rumbaugh.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
