Christian Biography of Jerry Steven Dahl

Jerry Steven Dahl, the son of Paul E. and Velda A. (Hogue) Dahl was born on March 3, 1954 in Biloxi, Mississippi. He passed away on December 11, 2013 at the Republic County Hospital Long Term Care, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 59 years, 9 months, and 8 days following a 15 year long battle with Parkinson's disease.

As a young boy, Jerry lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, Denison, Texas, and Denver, Colorado while his father was in the United States Air Force. Following Paul's honorable discharge from the Air Force in October, 1954, Jerry and his parents returned to the family farming operation in Jewell, Kansas. In the spring of 1957, they moved to the current family farm on the north edge of the Lovewell Lake near Webber, Kansas. For a brief period of time, Jerry also lived in Wichita, Kansas while attending the Institute of Logopedics.

Jerry attended school at the Webber Grade School in Webber, Kansas, the Special Education Unit in Superior, Nebraska, and Beloit High School, Beloit, Kansas.

He was a member of the Webber United Methodist Church and the Webber Wide-Awake 4-H Club. Jerry's livestock projects were his greatest joy and lead to many years of showing Registered Angus Cattle at open class shows in Kansas and Nebraska. He also enjoyed milking cows and selling milk and cream to customers in the local community.

Jerry enjoyed sports. He regularly attended his nieces' sporting activities while they were in Junior High and High School and watched college and pro games on television.

He also had a love for the outdoors. In addition to helping with the farming and livestock operation, Jerry spent many winters bow hunting with his mother and rifle hunting with his brother and father. He was very proud of the deer mounts on display in the family home which are a tribute to his hunting achievements.

One of the highlights of his life was traveling. Every summer he went on vacation with his family in a camper or motor home. They traveled throughout Canada several times and visited every state but Delaware and Hawaii. Their most exciting travel was the drive to the northern tip of Alaska.

Jerry was a very special person, always thinking of others and never complaining even though he had a terminal illness. His greatest passion in life was giving to others.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Velda A. Dahl on April 10, 2013.

He is survived by his father, Paul Dahl, brother, Curtis Dahl and sister, Denise Behrends and husband Richard all of Webber, Kansas; two nieces, Jessica Freeman and husband Adam of Salina, Kansas and Carrie Jeffery and husband Ross of Wichita, Kansas; a great nephew, Zachary Freeman and a great niece, Allie Jeffery.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Roger Walls officiating.

Music was "He's got the Whole World in His Hands," and "I'll Fly Away," with Tom Jensen as the vocalist and Lynette
Bartley as the accompanist.

Visitation was held on Friday 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM until services.

Pallbearers were Adam Freeman, Ross Jeffery, Monty Dahl, Glen Behrends, Brett Behrends, and Steve McIntyre.

Interment was in the Webber Cemetery at Webber, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to go to the Webber United Methodist Church.
