Christian Biography of Jim Ferebee

James Dwight Ferebee, the son of Arbor and Helene (Goodrich) Ferebee, was born on November 19, 1930 at the family home 2 ½ miles north of Nelson, Nebraska, the same house that he passed away in on April 27, 2022, at the age of 91. This was his wish.

He attended Pleasant View Elementary School which was ½ mile north of the family farm. He told of checking traps in the winter on the way to school, and once in a while there would be a skunk in the trap and the teacher was none too happy with the odor. He graduated from Nelson High School in 1948.

He entered the army in 1952 and did basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. After basic he was shipped to England. While in the service, he was able to visit France, Germany, and Switzerland. He attended Queen Elizabeth II coronation parade. He was discharged from the service in 1954 and returned to the family farm at Nelson.

One day he was at Alexander Motors in Superior getting parts and saw this woman walking to work and asked around and found out that it was Marian Bailey and as they say the rest is history. They were married on February 16, 1957 the 30 th anniversary of her parents wedding. They were married at the Guide Rock United Methodist Church. They celebrated their 63 rd anniversary days before Marian's death on February 22, 2020.

To this union two children were born, Karen Sue and Allen Lee.

In 1974 they received the Aksarben Pioneer family award.

Jim always had a dog and most of his life it was a Rat Terrier that was named "Hugo," we have lost track how many Hugo's there have been. He loved all animals, most of his early pictures he is with kittens or dogs or some other animal.

He always had a soft spot in his heart for the orphan kitten or a dog we found on the river. He was still out feeding the bottle calf or lamb till this spring. He always loved to watch the baby calves run and play.

He loved his family and always wanted to know what everyone was doing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Loren and Amy Bailey, wife Marian, brothers and sister, Loren (Vivian) Ferebee, Gene Ferebee, Shirley (Elmer) Peterson, Phyllis (Carl) Hartman, Maxine (Lawrence) Williams, nieces and nephews DeeAnn McCurdy, David Ferebee, Kathleen (Dwayne) McGinnis.

Survived by Karen (Terry) Daniels, Allen (Julie) Ferebee; grandchildren Travas and Bethany Daniels, Anthony, Alexandria and Adriana Ferebee, Miranda and Colby Walton, Candice Wagstrom; great grandchildren Oaklie, Wyatt, and Cade Walton and sister-in-law Violet Ferebee.
