Obituary

Judy Kay Malmos, 78, of Superior, passed away May 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born to Orville and Vivene Morrow, June 2, 1944, in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Judy graduated from O'Neill High School in 1962 and attended beauty school in Lincoln.

She married the late Jim Cavanaugh on September 13, 1963 in O'Neill, Nebraska. They lived together in Superior. To this union two daughters were born, Jodee and Jolene. On July 19, 1974 Judy married the love of her life and soulmate, Lee Malmos.

Judy was very artistic and spent her lifetime doing projects. She used her talent and love of all things creative by helping friends and family with their projects. Judy was upscaling the old and making it new before it was cool. She loved to decorate her home and it was always picture perfect. She passed her creative, artistic gifts and talents to her children and grandchildren.

Judy loved to make scrapbooks for her children and grandchildren, now treasured keepsakes. Weekly she worked on these scrapbook pages with best friend Carlita Price and Jan Jensen. Can't you just hear the giggles, laughter and gossip? Hobbies included cake decorating, counted cross stitch, and bridge. She loved keeping up with family and friends on Facebook, playing solitaire on the computer, making cards, cooking delicious meals for her family and in most recent years sitting in her recliner with her cats Summer and Sammy with Lee at her side.

Judy's friendships spanned far and wide. Her door was always open and the beer was always cold. First at the cabin at Lovewell Lake and then on the screen porch of their home. Judy is known in her circle of friends to have a quick wit and sharp tongue. She enjoyed going on trips with her bridge club, bowling, and spending time with her family. Judy organized two big family trips to Branson, MO in the summers of 2018 and 2019 that created memories to last lifetimes.

Judy was fiercely independent and this trait she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a leader and many sought her no-nonsense advice. Throughout her life Judy experienced many careers including hairdresser, retail sales at Carmen's Style Shoppe and housekeeping and laundry supervisor at Good Samaritan Society Center. It was there she created a lasting friendship with Ann Hobson. She retired from "Good Sam" in 2020 after a 30-year career. Most recently Judy enjoyed working for John Price Jr. cleaning the Vestey Center in Superior and loved that he held her job open for her when she fell ill. This kindness brought her so much peace.

Judy was preceded in death by her first husband Jim, parents Vivene and Orville, and brother Dan. She is survived by her sister Betty (Stan), brother Orville Curtis, sisters-in-law Linda and Kim (Jim); Lee, husband of 49 years, daughters Jodee and husband Bruce and Jolene and fiance Brian, the "elephant in the picture" Britni (Georgie), Marti (Travis), grandchildren Kiaya (Donnie), Ariana (Ziruss), Macee Jo, Katarena, Levi, Alonnie and Logan. Honorary grandchildren Treyton and Ryland. Along with her 7 great grandchildren Kynlee, Alexus, Kylan, Ava, Jax, Kristopher and Cayden. Judy also leaves behind her best friend of 60 years Carlita Price. And numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends
