Christian Biography of Kathe Ely
Kathleen Ellen Ely, the daughter of Henry and Pearl (Nelson) Nickerson, was born on February 3, 1938 on a farm near Gothenburg, Nebraska. She passed away on May 19, 2025 at Brodstone Healthcare in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 3 months, 16 days.
Kathe attended school at Gothenburg and later furthered her education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. While in her residency she came to visit Superior with a friend and it is there that she met Mason Ely. They were married on March 12, 1965 and were the proud parents of two boys, David and Jeffrey. Mason and Kathe just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Kathe was a 60-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Superior where she had many roles but always her faith was a great comfort to her. She belonged to the Jobs Daughters and the Eastern Star, loved to play cards, especially bridge. She and Mason went on many family trips to New York, Las Vegas, Colorado and most memorable was an Alaskan Cruise. Kathe was an avid watcher of all the good Hospital drama shows on television. She always enjoyed seeing her family and friends, and as her family stated, she was always doing for others and was very self-sacrificing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pearl, two brothers, Gerald and Bud and three sisters, Dorothy Jean, Pam and Opal.
She is survived by her husband Mason of Superior, sons, David Ely and wife Rosanna Walter of Broomfield, Colorado and Jeffrey Ely of Omaha, Nebraska along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
