Christian Biography of Larry Havens
Larry Warren Havens, the son of Roscoe and Thelma (Allen) Havens, was born on November 4, 1939 at the family home in Norton County, Kansas. He passed away on September 16, 2019 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 10 months, 12 days.
Larry was a Norton High School graduate. He was united in marriage to Gloria Applegate on March 23, 1959 at Norton, Kansas. This union was blessed with 3 children.
Larry was employed as a facility manager for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and lived in the communities of Norton, Wakeeney, Beloit, and Salina in Kansas, Buena Vista, Colorado before making Superior his home. He was a coach for the Superior Jaycees' BB gun team, which placed 1 st in Nebraska for 2 years, going to International competition. He is a past member of Superior Board of Education.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his children and grandchildren. His hobby was antiques. He enjoyed buying and refinishing them and selling his finished products at antique shows in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado. He enjoyed all sporting events and activities, especially following his children and grandchildren.
Larry entered the Superior Good Samaritan Society in February of 2017, where he resided until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Jacquelyn; parents-in-law Galen and Emma Applegate; sister-in-law Beverly Posson, and brothers-in-law David Posson and C.L. Adams.
Survivors include his wife Gloria; daughter Dawn (Von) Wehrman of Nelson and son Rodney (Karen) Havens of Aurora; 7 grandchildren: Katrena Corcoran of Lincoln; Tava (Adam) Bowman, of Lincoln; Abby Corcoran and Cesar Briseno of Sutton; Jarrett and Jayson Havens of Aurora; Joshua (Lisa) Thayer of Albion; Jacob Thayer and Marisa Miles of Creighton; 8 great grandchildren: Alexis, Kolby, Jace, Jordan, Prestyn, Braylon, Adaya and Dalton; sister-in-law Naomi Adams of Belleville; and brother-in-law David (Carol) Applegate of Oliver Springs, Tennessee; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Mark Posson and Pastor Natalie Faust officiating.
Music was "Amazing Grace," and "Go Rest High On That Mountain," with Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Carlita Price her accompanist and "Endless Love," recording.
Visitation was held on Wednesday from 4-8 with family present from 6:30-8 to greet friends.
Pallbearers were Joshua Thayer, Jacob Thayer, Jarrett Havens, Jayson Havens, Adam Bowman and Cesar Briseno
Interment will take place in the Norton Cemetery at Norton, Kansas at 3:00 PM
Memorials may be directed to the family for their choice.
