Christian Biography of Lee Malmos

LeRoy Lyle Malmos, the son of Ray and Millie Morton Malmos, was born on March 7, 1937 in Milford, Nebraska. He passed away on March 2, 2024 at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney, Ne at the age of 86 years, 11 months, 24 days. He left this earth to be with his "bride" Judy in heaven.  Lee was a longtime member of Centennial Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He graduated from Omaha Tech High School In 1955.

He married his soulmate, Judy Kay Cavanaugh, July 1974, after just 6 months of dating.  It was love at first sight according to Lee.  Often remarking that Judy saved his life.  He was the dad he didn't have to be to daughters Jodee and Jolene.  Lee was a very loving, sweet, compassionate father to the girls.  This proud dad never missed a concert, game, or confirmation. He taught both to drive, bait a hook, waterski, sled and to have fun.  Lee brought sunshine, love and laughter into the lives of Judy, Jodee, and Jolene.

Lee was a jack-of-all trades and a self-proclaimed "genuine genie." After graduating he went to work with his dad in construction, then moved into sales.  Lee could sell anyone, anything and he could fix anything.  He took pride in his home, yard and flower garden.  Lee and Judy loved turning trash into treasure.  They transformed a stump in their front yard into a gnome house; even decorating it for holidays.

Lee loved his birds. He took great care to feed them daily and thoroughly enjoyed watching them while sitting on the screen porch.  His bird feeder collection was extensive and he had various bird houses for them.  But cardinals were his favorite.  When he saw his cardinal pair, he knew Judy was there with him.

Adventure was in Lee's blood.  Throughout his live he enjoyed many including hot air balloon rides, road rallies and parasailing behind a ski boat at Lovewell Lake.  He loved telling stories and laughing with fiends.  Lee and Judy enjoyed many trips to Texas and Colorado with the "Super 8" which included Carlita and Bill Erickson and Jan and Wylie Jensen.  They even took an old-time photo together on one of these trips.

Lee never knew a stranger.  He greeted everyone with a wave, smile or handshake.  His personality made those he met feel instantly comfortable.  He loved working at Ace Hardware, Kenny's Lumber, and Ideal Market.  He said his customers needed him.

The cabin at Lovewell Lake was the pride and joy of Lee and Judy's life.  It was there they raised the girls and entertained all who stopped in. Visitors were offered a cold beer and a place to sit and visit.  The laughter could be heard around the cabin area and often lasted until the morning. The screen porch was where Lee grilled hundreds of steaks.

Lee even built a screen porch on their house in town so the fun would follow.  Lee loved his weekly lunches with Gene Bruening and Carmen's pumpkin pie.  They would drive for miles for the best lunches, enjoying each other's company and the countryside.  Many a world problem was solved on those drives.  After Judy died, he loved happy hour at Superior Bowl talking about the good old days with friends.

Lee was proceeded in death by his parents, Ray and Millie Malmos, and his wife, Judy.  He is survived by his sisters Linda and Kim (Jim), sister-in-law Betty (Stan), and brother-in-law Orville Curtis, daughters Jodee and husband Bruce, Jolene and fiancé Brian, his "angel" Britni (Georgie), Marti (Travis), grandchildren Kiaya (Donnie), Ariana (Ziruss), Macee Jo, Katarena, Levi, Alonnie and Logan. Honorary grandchildren Treyton and Ryland. Along with his 7 great grandchildren Kynlee, Alexus, Kylan, Ava, Jax, Kristopher and Cayden.  Lee also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and too many friends to list.
