Christian Biography of Leland Warren Kindler

Leland Warren Kindler, the son of Ernest and Frances (Spachek) Kindler, was born on May 24, 1921, on a farm east of Esbon in Jewell County, Kansas and lived in Colby since 1957. He died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his home in Colby at the age of 92 years.

Leland graduated from Esbon High School with the class of 1939.

He served in the Navy for 39 months during World War II, including 16 months stationed at naval medical facilities at Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Pacific. After the war, he attended Wichita Business School, worked for Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita, and then for International Harvester, traveling throughout western Kansas. He retired in 1978.


He was a member of the American Legion, served as quarter master of the Barnett Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 35 years and was a member of the committee that commissioned the veterans memorial at the Thomas County courthouse in 1991. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Isis Temple Shrine and Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Leatha Davis in 2003.

He is survived by his son, Roger Kindler (Ligeia Fontaine) of Washington, D.C.; other relatives and a host of friends.
