Leona M.
Anderson
Jun 7, 1920 — Mar 14, 2014
Christian Biography of Leona Anderson
Leona Margaret Anderson, the daughter of Ed and Mary (Hamel) Lanham, was born on June 7, 1920 on a farm north east of Nora, Nebraska. She passed away on March 14, 2014 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 9 months, 7 days.
Leona attended Nora school and graduated from Nora High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Charlie Anderson of Oak, Nebraska on a very windy day on March 29, 1941 at Mankato, Kansas. She met Charlie while working for his mother Bertha Anderson, following a bad car wreck near Oak. Two daughters were born to this couple, Pauline, who married Rolland Franzen and Shirley who was deceased at birth.
Leona helped with all the work on the farm until Charlie's death on January 21, 1992. She remained in the farm home until 2009 when because of failing health went to the rest home. At first she joked, "I've worked so hard, now I'm here to rest." Leona loved her garden and flowers. The flowers bloomed profusely for her outside and on her sunny south porch. She kept her chickens and continued selling eggs to friends and neighbors for a while after Charlie passed away. She was proud of her orchard and yard and kept it all mowed (by hand) herself until early in 2009 when she had to get help. She also really enjoyed her families who kept sheep and cattle in the farmyard lots, it was company for her every day. Leona was a member of the former Nora Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Charlie, infant daughter Shirley, a brother Ralph Lanham and wife Ellen and all of Charlie's siblings and spouses.
Survivors include her daughter, Pauline Franzen and husband Rolland of Ruskin, Nebraska; granddaughter Lisa Franzen of Kearney, Nebraska; grandson Richard Franzen and wife Gaylene who currently live on Leona and Charlie's home place by Nora, Nebraska, great-grandchildren, Damion, Sierra and Preston Franzen and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.
