Christian Biography of Leonard Rempe
Leonard William Rempe, the son of Henry and Magdalena (Ilg) Rempe, was born on November 5, 1922 in Mount Clare, Nebraska. He passed away on April 29, 2016 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 5 months, 24 days.
Leonard was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. He attended Mt. Hope and St. Stephen's rural schools while growing up. He lived in the Lawrence area until 1948 when he moved to farm northeast of Superior.
On August 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Brockman at St. Stephen's Catholic Church and to this union 5 children were born. He farmed his entire life until retirement in 1987 and moved into town.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and served as Trustee and the Farmer's Union Board and the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Magdalena; son Eugene and brothers John, Alphonse and Arthur and his sister Berniece Kimminau.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; sons Roy and wife Trish, Ronald and wife Arlene and James and wife Melody all of Superior, Nebraska and daughter Janice Williams and husband Ronald of Hastings, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren: Matt, Brian and fiancé Courtney Malone, Kayla, Nick, Lauren Rempe; Sam and wife Molly and Ty Rempe, Jenna Souchek and husband Josh, Ryan and Jamie Williams; 5 Great grandchildren: Miriam, Joseph, Gianna and Jude Souchek and Bishop Rempe; brothers Raymond and wife Lucille of Hastings, Nebraska and Edward and wife Joan and Elmer and Maxine all of Superior, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law LaVeta Rempe of Hastings, Nebraska and Rita Rempe of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother-in-law Edmund Brockman of Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Brad Zitek officiating. Lector was Mel Menke, Acolytes were Richard Sullivan and Jerry Miller and Altar Servers were Ezra and Clayton Morris.
Congregational Hymns were "The Strife Is Over, The Battle Is Done," "On Eagle's Wings," "I Am The Bread Of Life," and "Be Not Afraid," and solo "Oh Loving God" by Arnold Miller with Carolyn Mazour as the Organist.
Rosary Service was held on Monday, May 2nd at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Pallbearers were Matt Rempe, Brian Rempe, Nick Rempe, Ryan Williams, Sam Rempe and Ty Rempe. Honorary Pallbearers were Jenna Souchek, Jamie Williams, Kayla Rempe and Lauren Rempe.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
