Christian Biography of Lester Wissing
Lester Leon Wissing, the son of August and Elsie (Christensen) Wissing, sunrise-June 5, 1935 at Burr Oak, Kansas ; sunset-and went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2018 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 9 months, 7 days.
Lester was one of three children. He attended many grades schools including Sand Knob, Eureka, Highland, and Antelope and graduated from Superior High School in 1953. He was baptized on August 25, 1937 at Bethany Lutheran in Ruskin by Peter Vammon and confirmed on October 2, 1949 Bethel Church in Abdal by E. Petersen.
He enlisted with the United States Army on June 27, 1956 serving during the Post Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1958
On June 14, 1959 he was united in marriage to Sherrill June Rhodes at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Superior. This union was blessed with a son and daughter. Lester farmed 30 years in the abdal area, and he worked at Pamida/Shopko in Superior for 15 years.
Lester was an eight year member of the 2R school board, and worked several years on the St. Stephen's and Victor pre-election board.
He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a good friend to all and everyone knew they could count on him for anything. He always wore and remembered by his suspenders.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Elsie; brother August Wissing, Jr., his son Gary; his father and mother-in-law Fred & Ida Rhodes, brother-in-law Frank Martin, and nephews Dana and Brian Dittmer.
Lester is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sherrill; their daughter Lana Christiansen of Minden and daughter-in-law Genelle Wissing of Hastings, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Jeromey Wissing, Joshua Wissing, Carsen and Jade Rowley, Jessica Stryker and husband Nathan and Brett Rowley and his fiancé Andrean Kimminau; 7 great grandchildren Colin, Joslyan, and Dylan Rowley, Lennen Johnson, Ryann,, Riata Stryker and Liberty Kimminau; and his sister Esther Martin of Superior; specials friends of the Alfred Miller family; nieces, nephew, other relatives, and a host of friends.
