Christian Biography of Lorna Hill
Lorna Esther Hill, the daughter of Edwin and Rosa (Heitmann) Tietjen, was born on June 18, 1928 on a farm near Byron, Nebraska. She passed away on October 22, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 4 months, 4 days.
Lorna was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Byron by Pastor Lentz in 1928 and confirmed in 1942 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byron by Pastor Weltner. She attended Byron country school and graduated from Byron High School. She earned her nursing degree from Omaha Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in 1950.
On July 23, 1950 she was united in marriage to William Hill at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska and to this union five girls were born. Lorna was a 64 year member of the Centennial Lutheran Church, a member of the Brodstone Memorial Hosptial Board for 6 years, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the LWML at Centennial Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Carla Hill, brothers Verland Tietjen and his wife Merna and Ray Tietjen.
She is survived by her husband William "Bill" Hill of Superior, daughters, Susan Penner and husband Rod of South Bend, Nebraska, Linda Daugherty and husband Tim of Omaha, Nebraska, Pam Frerichs and husband Mark of Papillion, Nebraska, and Julie Allison and husband Wayne of Edmond, Oklahoma. Seven grandchildren, Allison Bruntz, Andrew Penner, Ryan Daugherty, Rebecca Daugherty, Brent Frerichs, Ben Frerichs and Jake Allision.and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate and William. She is also survived by a brother, Egbert Tietjen and wife Mary of Chester, Nebraska and a sister,Delores Dahl and husband John of Davenport, Nebraska along with many relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Patrick Flynn officiating.
Music was "On Eagles Wings" and "The Lord's Prayer" with Stephanie Thayer as soloist. A congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace" with Carlita Price as organist.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
Pallbearers were Allison Bruntz, Andrew Penner, Ryan Daugherty, Rebecca Daugherty, Brent Frerichs, Ben Frerichs and Jake Allisson.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
