Christian Biography of Lorraine Katherine Hofts

Lorraine Sophia Katherine Hofts, the daughter of Fred and Christine (Meyer) Schleufer, was born on June 12, 1918 on a farm near Byron, Nebraska. She passed away on July 1, 2012 at Superior Good Samaritan Society, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 94 years and 19 days.

Lorraine was baptized on June 20, 1918 at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler by Rev. Fred Schwerin and confirmed on April 24, 1932 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Deshler by Rev. Otto Witting. She attended St. Mark's Parochial School near Ruskin and Deshler High School. She was united in marriage to John Harold Hofts on April 19, 1941 at St. Joseph, Missouri; one son was born to this union.

They moved to Superior in November of 2002, with Harold passing away in 2005.

During Lorraine's younger years she worked at the broom factory in Deshler. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1957 and at one time Women of Salem Lutheran Church and the Nora Extension Club. Throughout her lifetime Lorraine lived in Ruskin, Deshler, Nora and Superior.

She was a wonderful cook, always liked dogs and looked forward to visits from her family. In later years she enjoyed listening to the radio when her great granddaughters played basketball.

Lorraine fell and broke her hip in September of 2011 and became a resident of the Superior Good Samaritan Society, where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Harold on August 26, 2005; brother Delvin Schleufer and twin great grand babies Ethan and Adrienne Hofts.

Survivors include her son Ron and wife Nancy of Superior, Nebraska; grandson Troy Hofts of Superior, Nebraska and granddaughter Sherry Gebers and husband Dave of Nora, Nebraska; four great grandchildren Reed and Amy Hofts and Stacia and Haley Gebers; other relatives and a host of friends.
