Christian Biography of Lorraine A. Shafer

Lorraine Ann Shafer, the daughter of Charles and Iva (Grove) Newton, was born on August 13, 1929 in Edgar, Nebraska. She passed away on March 21, 2019 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society, Superior, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 7 months, 8 days.

Lorraine attended school in Edgar, Nebraska thru the 8 th grade. On September 25, 1949, she was united in marriage to Norman W. Shafer at the First Baptist Church in Superior, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three daugh

Lorraine was a loving wife and mother and wonderful homemaker for her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church while living in Superior, until it closed. When they lived in Lexington, she was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, and she worked outside the home as a store clerk at Gibson's and Sears Catalog Store and did elderly care. In Kearney she was a member of the First Baptist Church and worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She was very active in the church organizations, including singing in the choir.

She loved cooking, baking, making candy and just being in the kitchen. She also enjoyed gardening, and taking care of her flowers, especially Roses, Iris, Tulips and Peonies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman on March 2, 2017; brother Vaughn Newton and sisters Marge Zichal and Norma Glass.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen and husband Dr. John Crook of Omaha, Nebraska; Nancy Kloppenborg of Hastings, Nebraska; and Kellie Neill of Superior, Nebraska;

4 grandchildren, Dr. Trystan Crook and wife Hope of Kansas City, Kansas; Aaron Crook of Kansas City, Kansas, Linda Shaw and husband Mike of Hastings, Nebraska and Dr. Brian Kloppenborg and wife Jessica of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 9 great grandchildren, Cadyn Crook, Hudsyn Crook, Michael, Jacob, Katelyn, Isaiah, Madison and Owen Shaw and Sara Kloppenborg; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Missie Wilt officiating.

Music was "In The Garden" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow, with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Price as organist. A recording of "I Can Only Imagine" was played.

Visitation was held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 4:00 – 6:00 PM to greet friends.

Pallbearers were Trystan Crook, Aaron Crook, Brian Kloppenborg, Michael Shaw, Jason Jensen and Brenden Jensen.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
