Christian Biography of Lyle Sorensen
Lyle LeRoy Sorensen, the son of Frits and Olga (Christensen) Sorensen, was born on August 12, 1931 on the family farm north of Ruskin, Nebraska. He passed away on August 29, 2012 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 81 years, and 17 days.
In honoring Lyle's wishes he chose to donate his body to the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska to help and benefit others in their research and education.
He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin. Lyle attended the Summit Country School and graduated from Ruskin High School in 1949 as the class Salutatorian. He attended one year at Dana College, Blair, Nebraska. On June 18, 1952 he was inducted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged on May 19, 1954. He was united in marriage to Willa Wilson on May 15, 1955 at the Methodist Church, Nelson, Nebraska and to this union three children were born, Roxane Rae, Karla Kae, and Steven Scott.
Lyle was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church his entire life serving on the Church Council, the Ruskin American Legion Kolling Post #242 for 51 years holding numerous offices, Cemetery Board for 27 years, School Board, and the Coop Board. He farmed and resided on the home place all his life.
Together Willa and Lyle enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri, he loved his country music, card games, going to cattle sales, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Eldon on January 14, 2012.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Willa; and daughters Roxane Thompson and husband Steve and Karla Schoof and husband Phil and son Steve and wife Lisa all of Ruskin, Nebraska; six grandchildren Amber Brown and husband Evan, Ashley Siebenneicher and husband Brandon, Shanda Watts and husband Gordon, Krista Harms and husband Tyler, Kendra Else and husband Andy and Trent Sorensen and special friend Amy; eight great grandchildren and anticipating a ninth, Owen, Ella and Rhett Brown, Emily and Trevon Watts and Reese and Barrett Harms, and Raegan Else; niece, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
