Christian Biography of Marilyn L. Peterson

Marilyn L. Peterson, the daughter of William (Bill) and Goldie (McClanahan) Cook, was born on December 5, 1939 in Fremont, Nebraska. She passed away on May 9, 2018 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

Marilyn attended school and graduated with the class of 1957 from Arlington High School. She was united in marriage to Ronald Peterson on October 18, 1958 at Elkhorn, Nebraska. The union was blessed with 3 children.

In 1966, Marilyn and her family moved from Elkhorn, Nebraska to Superior. She worked at Blue Cross Serum Company for several years. In her spare time, evenings and weekends, she did dog grooming. She eventually went to work for J. David Aden. While working here she was introduced to tax preparation which became her career. In 1980, she founded M&R Bookkeeping, where she worked until her death.

Civic responsibility was important to Marilyn. She was involved in the Mrs. Jaycees on both the local and state level. It was through this organization she became a candidate and eventual Nuckolls County Centennial Queen in 1971. She was a Superior Chamber of Commerce member and a member of the Superior Ambassadors. She also served on the hospital board as both a board member and board president.

Marilyn loved to laugh. She had a great sense of humor. Much of that laughter came on the regular trips with her non-bridge playing bridge group. Their motto was "what happens on the trip stays on the trip."

No doubt Marilyn's biggest love was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all knew she was there for them. She loved any time spent with family. You could always count on seeing "GG" at the sporting events of her grandchildren. She occasionally cheered for the wrong school but always the correct kid.

Sports were another passion. From the Huskers to the Royals, she was an avid fan. She enjoyed watching golf and the Olympics as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Goldie; infant brother Arnold; mother and father-in-law Henry and Helen Peterson; brother-in-law Arnold Peterson; sister-in-law Janice Peterson.

Survivors include her husband Ron, daughter Rhonda Peterson and sons Jim (Susan) all of Superior and Jay (Kristi) of Fairbury, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren Kristin (Adam) Sunday, Josh Peterson, Brooke (Terron) Bauer, Jason Peterson, and Justin Peterson; 4 great grandchildren Jacob, Jetta, and Jrey Sunday and Liam Bauer. Brothers Robert (Janet) Cook of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Raymond (Joyce) Cook of Peoria, Arizona; brothers-in-law Larry Peterson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Glen (Joan) Peterson of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska; other relatives, a host of friends, and her many clients.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Megrue-Price Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Julin-McCleary officiating.

Music was Elvis recordings of "My Way" and "How Great Thou Art."

Visitation was held on Sunday from 1-8 with family receiving friends from 5-7.

Pallbearers were Josh Peterson, Jason Peterson, Justin Peterson, Jacob Sunday, Adam Sunday and Terron Bauer. Honorary Pallbearers were Kristin Sunday, Brooke Bauer, Jetta Sunday, Jrey Sunday, and Liam Bauer.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the American Diabetes Association or the Southern Nebraska Arts Council in care of the family.
