Christian Biography of Marlene Jorgensen

Marlene Jorgensen daughter of Cecil and Pauline (Langer) Harkins passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Nita and Ken Jones in Omaha, NE on January 29, 2015.

She was born October 5, 1931 in Jewell County, Kansas. Marlene graduated from Superior High School in 1949. After graduating she was employed by the Superior Express.

On January 14, 1951 she was united in marriage to Holger Daniel (H.D.) Jorgensen at the United Methodist Church in Superior. Shortly after their wedding they moved to St. Louis, MO. H.D. served a tour in Korea and Marlene moved back to Superior awaiting the arrival of twin girls, Nita and Nina, born October 12, 1952. After H.D.'s tour in Korea, they moved to Gothenburg, NE where a son, Jerry, was born Feb. 19, 1955. They moved to Brule, NE and then settled in Ogallala, NE.

Marlene's favorite pastimes included going to garage sales and auctions seeking that special "treasure". She also enjoyed embroidery needlework, loved working in her flower garden and watching the birds and butterflies that visited her garden.

Marlene worked at Goodall Electric in Ogallala for almost 20yrs, then at Keith County Courthouse where she retired after 25yrs with the Assessor's office. She also worked part-time for Hallmark cards in 2 stores in Ogallala retiring from that job after 30yrs.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ogallala Nebraska for close to 60 years.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Pauline Harkins, her husband H.D. and her brother-in-law Marlin Shaw.

She is survived by her daughters, Nita (Ken) Jones of Omaha; Nina Jorgensen of Ogallala; son, Jerry (Sheila) Jorgensen of North Platte; 9 grandchildren, Tami (Matt) (Jones) Hemmelgarn of Omaha, Kendra (Nick Spath) Jones of Omaha, Hamilton Jones of Omaha, Danessa (Ernie) (Jones) Hemmer of Omaha, Dani Jorgensen of Sutherland, Jay (Heidi) Jones of North Platte, Zach Jorgensen of North Platte,
Jered (Megan) Jorgensen of North Platte, Ellie (Jason) (Jorgensen) Miller of Kearney. 16 great grandchildren, Celeste and Mason Hemmelgarn plus 1 due in April, Emma and Kennedy Marlene Spath, Madison and Ethan Jones, Emirson and Lilli Hemmer, plus 1 due in May, Kati, Sean and Nate Richter, Jayden, Abbie and Allie Jones, Greta Jorgensen and Ogden Miller. Sister, Avis Shaw of Superior, NE. A niece, Stephanie (Todd) (Shaw) Gates, great niece, Arie of Novi, MI and a nephew, Tim Shaw of Gretna. Marlene is also survived by many cousins, friends and extended family.



Funeral services were held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the First United Methodist Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Tupper officiating.

Music was recordings of "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," "Showers of Blessing," and "A Bushel and a Peck."

Visitation was held Sunday 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Hamilton Jones, Jay Jones, Zach Jorgensen, Jered Jorgensen, Matt Hemmelgarn, Nick Spath, Ernie Hemmer and Jason Miller.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established and may be directed to the family.
