Christian Biography of Mary M. Harig

Mary M. Harig, the daughter of Wiktor and Apalormnia "Pauline" (Nimniec) Strauss, was born on September 29, 1924 in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, New York. She passed away on February 5, 2016 at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 4 months, 7 days.

Mary attended school at Saint Dominic's, in Blauvelt, New York. On June 2, 1945 she was united in marriage to Donald Allen Harig in New York City, to this union six children were born.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Donald, September 21, 1988; infant son, Ronald Allen; son Dean Allen; sister, Julia Godsey formerly of Superior, Nebraska; 1 other sister; 2 brothers; 4 half-brothers and 1 half-sister.

Mary is survived by her children: Michael Harig, Sr. and wife Esther of Hastings, Nebraska, Gary Harig of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry Harig and VeAnn Lindgren, and Loree Harig all of Hastings, Nebraska. Grandchildren: Lara Harig-Buchanan and husband Scott of Palmdale, California, Brian and wife Katy Harig of Huntsville, Texas, Ronald and wife Jennie Harig of Leavenworth, Kansas, Michael Harig, Jr. of Nelson, Nebraska, Dean Allen Harig of Hastings, Nebraska, Adam Harig and wife Abbey of Red Cloud, Nebraska, Alyssa Harig-Johnson and husband Thaddeus of Sumner, Nebraska. Step Grandchildren: Stephan Weber and wife Paula of Minneapolis Minnesota, Anna Weber-Gentry and husband Brandon and John Weber all of Tulsa Oklahoma, and Dean Nikolei (Jack) Harig of Austin, Texas. Eight Great Grandchildren with Alyssa's and Brian's both due in July; four step great grandchildren. Special friends: Janet Harig of Superior, Nebraska & Vickie Goochey-Harig-Wiens of Bayard, Nebraska. Sister's-in-law: Eva Jane Harig formerly of Superior, Nebraska, Darlene Harig-Aylor, & Betty Harig-Williams; numerous nephews, nieces and a friends.

Mary belonged to the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, reading, fishing, crochet, cribbage and pinochle. She never knew a stranger, and if someone would comment on her accent and ask where she is from she would tell them," I'm a Nebraska Hillbilly."
