Christian Biography of Merwyn D. (Cap) Renz

Merwyn Dean Renz, the oldest son of Ebel C.H. "Dick" and Hazel (Larsen) Renz, was born on August 11, 1930 on his parent's farm south and east of Ruskin, Nebraska. He passed away on April 22, 2015 at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 8 months, 11 days.

He was baptized at home on August 27, 1930 by Pastor Anders Hansen and was confirmed by Pastor Johann Petersen at rural Bethany Lutheran Church on May 27, 1945, being a lifetime member of the church.

Cap attended rural schools in the Ruskin and Hardy area and Ruskin High School.

In January of 1950 he joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed at England Air Force Base, Alexandria, Louisiana, where he met his wife Mary Lou James. He was sent overseas to Chaumont Air Base, France in 1952. In 1953 he sent for Mary Lou to join him and they were married in Wiesbaden, Germany, on February 18, 1953 after which they lived in Chaumont until his discharge from the service in November of 1953 at which time they returned to Ruskin. To this union three sons were born, Timothy Dean, Danny James, and Scott Christian.

He was engaged in farming and the trucking business in the Ruskin area.

Cap was a member of the Ruskin American Legion. He also served on the Ruskin School Board. Ruskin Fire Department, Bethany Lutheran Church Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents E.C.H. (Dick) and Hazel, and brother-in-law Robert Werner.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou of Ruskin; sons Tim of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dan and wife Janet of Ruskin, Nebraska; and Scott and wife Carman of Grand Island, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Cory Renz and wife Nicole of Grand Island, Katie Burd and husband John of Hebron, Nebraska, Bret Renz and wife Jess of Grand Island, Nebraska, Zach Renz and wife Becky of Ashland, Nebraska, Danielle Renz of Ruskin, Nebraska; 8 great grandchildren: Nathan Burd, Madalyn Renz, Kira Renz, Treyton Renz, Harper Renz, Sean Burd, Noah Renz, Jacob Enck; brother Berdon "Cork" Renz and wife JoAnn of Deshler, Nebraska and sister Judy Werner of Carleton, Nebraska; and special family friend Susan Wiedel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:30 am from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska with Pastor Jonathan Jensen officiating.

Music was "In The Garden," and "The Lord's Prayer," solo's by Brad Schultz, congregational hymn "On Eagle's Wings," and recording of "Battle Hymn Of The Republic," with DeeAnn Petersen as the organist.

Pallbearers were Cory Renz, Bret Renz, Zachary Renz, Clint Werner, Barry Renz, John Burd, Gerald Simonson and Larry Judy. Honorary Pallbearers were Katie Burd, Danielle Renz, Nathan Burd, Madalyn Renz, Kira Renz, Treyton Renz, Harper Renz, Sean Burd, Noah Renz and Jacob Enck.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska.

Memorials in care of the family to be designated at a later date.
