Christian Biography of Michael Ost

Michael Neal Ost, the son of Milford and Anne (Siemon) Ost, was born on February 2, 1955 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. He passed away on August 21, 2026 at his home at the age of 71 years, 6 months, 19 days with his wife Lora by his side.

Mike graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1973. He started working on the farm at a young age and continued to do so until his health would no longer permit it. He loved the cattle and his horses most. He especially loved when he found a mare named Poquito and he and Lora started raising foals out of her. Mike believed a handshake was law and spent countless days under a wide-open sky working cattle, fixing fence, and farming. Mike was also a master welder and created many masterpieces for their home. Mike loved to team rope and was so proud of the saddles he won, and his love for hunting was unmatched. He loved to go hunting and fishing with Jesse and take the girls to the farm pond to target shoot. He loved taking his grandsons candy when he visited. Mike was as ornery as they come, and his sense of humor and quick wit will be missed. They just don't make them like that anymore.

In December of 1994, he met Lora and all it took was one sentence "where have you been all my life?" On October 12, 1996, Mike married the love of his life. Together they built a life that consisted of working together in every aspect of ranching, farming, raising horses and their Labradors. His spirit remains in the wind across their land.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and brother Brad Ost.

Mike is survived by his wife Lora, his children Jesse (Marcy) Ost of Hunter, Kansas; Jennifer Cashman of Mount Hope, Kansas; Arielle Ost of Chesapeake, Virginia and Mariah (Dane) Wells also of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven grandchildren Kooper, Jaxon, Kaycee, Mayce, Dylan, Liam and Bennett. His brother Larry (Ronda) Ost of Mankato, Kansas and sister Audra of Kansas City; numerous nieces and nephews and many roping and hunting friends.

A Celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 10:00 am from Megrue-Price Funeral Home, in Superior, Nebraska with Rod Rose officiating.
