Christian Biography of Nellie Littrell
Nellie Irene Littrell, the daughter of William and Nora (Kramer) Janssen, was born on February 25, 1928 near Mt. Clare, Nebraska. She passed away on March 5, 2015 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years and 8 days.
As a young girl the family moved to Gentry, Missouri where she spent most of her childhood years, returning to Nelson her senior year of high school and graduating from Nelson High School. She attended Kearney State Teachers College.
Nellie was united in marriage to Robert Littrell on December 31, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas. This union was blessed with 2 children, Jon and Gail. Nellie and Bob lived most of their lives in Nelson, where Bob was owner and operator of Littrell's Inc., a petroleum transportation company in Nelson and she worked for the Public Power District and also the school as a secretary.
She was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, PEO, the American Legion Auxiliary, UWF, Eastern Star, Library Board, Red Hats and a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed horses, camping, golfing, Nebraska football, doing needle work and sewing, traveling and working in her garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on June 24, 1994; her brother, Dale Janssen and two sisters, Ruth Wehrman and Lorene Adamson.
Nellie is survived by her son, Jon Littrell and wife Pat of Roca, Nebraska; and daughter, Gail Littrell of Lincoln, Nebraska; 3 granddaughters, Casey, Caitlin and Tara Littrell all of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating.
Music was "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden" with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Price as organist.
Honorary pallbearers were Casey Littrell, Caitlin Littrell, Tara Littrell, Dick Wehrman and Joe Adamson.
Private Family inurnment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.
