Christian Biography of Norm Smith

Norman LeRoy Smith, the son of Ernest B. and Daisy (Dawson) Smith, was born on December 14, 1936 on a farm near Hollis, Kansas. He passed away on October 9, 2013 in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 9 months, 25 days.

Norm attended school through the 8th grade at Hollis, Kansas and graduated in 1955 from the Concordia High School in Concordia, Kansas. He was currently a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior. On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Darlene Comeau and to this union 5 children were born.

During his life Norm held memberships in the Elks, the Eagles, the Knights of Columbus, the Superior Volunteer Fire Department and EMT's and during peacetime a member of the National Guard in Concordia and enjoyed league bowling.

He had a love for woodworking and cabinetry and was a self-employed carpenter. He loved to watch birds and enjoyed his long drives with his dog "Bo".

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernest and Elvin along with one sister, Velma Smith.

He is survived by his children, Delaine Birchard and husband Ron of Lincoln, Nebraska; Delmar Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; Dedra Peterson and husband Brad of Courtland, Kansas; Dennis Smith and wife Lisa of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Darren Smith of Houston, Texas; he is also survived by eight grandchildren, Nick Birchard, Travis Smith, Hope Smith, Jenny Flavin, Shawn Peterson and wife Sarah, Darcy Peterson, Brooklyn Smith, Kelsey Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Torrin Boyer, Tisha Birchard, Kya Birchard, Leah Smith, Cooper Flavin, Elliott Flavin, Bryn Flavin and Colin Peterson; brother Larry Smith of Branson, Missouri and sister Gladys Smith; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 am from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Rev. Brad Zitek officiating.

Music was "On Eagles Wings" and "Amazing Grace" with Alicia Reed as soloist and Howard Reed as accompanist.

Visitation was held on Friday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Carl Suschland, Duane Nelson, Ray Biltoft, Brad Biltoft, Warren Smith and Linden Smith.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the American Red Cross.
