Christian Biography of Norma Darlene Oglevie

Norma Darlene (McNichols) Oglevie age 92 peacefully passed away Tuesday February 20, 2019, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law Charlotte and Buddy Rodgers of Lincoln NE.

Darlene was born in Guide Rock NE on January 2, 1927 to Glenn and Hazel (Howe) McNichols.

Darlene married Gene Oglevie, her high school sweetheart, soon after graduating from Guide Rock High School on June 5 of 1945. They initially lived and raised their two children in Superior NE, then in Tescott KS, and settled in at Columbus NE for approximately the next 12 years.

It was in Columbus NE that this couple came to faith in Jesus Christ and both served faithfully at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church, making many lifelong friends in the community. With her husband Gene's promotion within the Champlin Oil Corporation, the couple moved to Oklahoma City OK. Darlene entered the workplace fulltime for approximately 10 years with Southwestern Bell. They were active there in Nazarene Churches, where again, they developed lifelong friendships. In the early 1980's, the couple took advantage of an opportunity to transfer to Superior NE with Champlin.

The couple enjoyed settling back into the Superior NE community, renewing many relationships built from their youth and also, making many new friends. Darlene was active in the Superior community, helping with the Nazarene Women's ministries, Hospital Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Club, Nifty Thrifty Shop, Head Start Program, Christian Women's Club, and Bird Club.

As the years progressed, Darlene downsized to an apartment in Superior, under the watchful care of nephew and niece Dave and Karen Frey. In 2013, she moved to live with her daughter Charlotte and son-in-law Buddy in Lincoln NE. Her generally chipper spirit and quick witticisms endeared her to many of Charlotte's neighbors and to the loving staff provided by Home Instead and Hospice Community Care.

Most people who came to know Darlene considered her to be their friend.

Darlene is survived by her daughter Charlotte (Buddy) Rodgers of Lincoln NE, son Mike (Carol) Oglevie of Columbus NE, -  brother Steve (Carol-deceased) McNichols of Golden CO, -  grandchildren Beth (Oglevie) Mueller of Kansas City, Matthew Oglevie of Menlo Park CA,  Cory (Brandy) Miller of Omaha NE,  Julie (Eric) Bengston of Arvada CO, -  great grandchildren Danielle Mueller of Columbus NE, Madeline Mueller of Kansas City MO, - great-great grandchildren Logan Mueller and Lily Mueller of Columbus NE, Brady Bengtson of Arvada CO, Willa Miller and Julia Miller of Omaha NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Hazel (Howe) McNichols, husbands Gene Oglevie and Harvey Wallis, sister Betty (Dana-deceased) Fenimore of Golden CO, sister Joann (Gene-deceased) Brehm of Golden CO, sister Doris (Raymond-deceased) Ross of Golden CO, sister Glenna (Vernon-deceased) Kitten of Lincoln, brother Ron (Marlos, Barbara) McNichols of La Junta CO.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Jeff Kimberly officiating.

Music was "I Can Only Imagine," "I Know Whom, I Have Believed," "It Is Well With My Soul," with Stephanie Thayer as vocalist and Carol Oglevie as her accompanist.

Pallbearers were Cory Miller, Brian Kitten, Eric Bengtson, David Frey, Bill Miksa, Keary Riedel and John Howe. Honorary Pallbearers Matthew Oglevie, Steve McNichols and Mike Damon.

Visitation was held on February 22, 2019 from 4:00 to 8 pm with family members available from 5-7.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska with a lunch to follow at the Church of the Nazarene fellowship hall.

Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
