Christian Biography of Opal J Laird

Opal Joy (Ulsh) Laird, originally of Superior, NE passed away on August 6, 2024 in Hayden, CO at the age of 99 years, 10 months and 16 days.  She always considered Superior her home, no matter where she was residing, and looked forward to getting the hometown newspaper.

Opal was born on September 21, 1924 in Webber, Kansas, the daughter of Boyd and Bessie (Clark) Ulsh. She graduated from Superior High School and lived a life committed to her family, friends and community.

She married Herman (Larry) Laird on October 3, 1947, and together they were blessed with 5 children: Nancy, Janet, Steve, Tom and Ron.   Opal was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved handwork, reading, and contributing to her family, church, and community.

Opal is preceded in death by her parents Boyd and Bessie, her husband Herman (Larry), daughter Janet (Laird) Oldham, and son Steven Laird.

Survivors include her daughter Nancy (Laird) & Otho Burton of Denver, NC; daughter-in-law, Lori Laird; stepsons Tom (& Suzette) Laird of Bryan, TX, Ron (& Brenda) Laird of Lincoln, NE. 5 grandchildren:  Susan (& Scott)  Russell, Scott (& Kim) Hamel, Stephanie (& Rick) Potter, Danielle Laird,  Amanda (& Davin) Arnold; 6 great-grandchildren: Taylor (& Ana) Powell, Aiden Conner, Alexis Conner, Ghauge Laird, Mountain Laird and Aspen Opal Laird; 1 great-great granddaughter Oaklee Powell.

A graveside memorial service will be held on August 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, NE with a reception at the Methodist Church to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Haven Assisted Living Center, 300 S. Shelton Lane, Hayden, CO 81639
