Christian Biography of Paul Dahl

Paul Einar Dahl, the son of Thomas and Ella (Caskey) Dahl, was born on July 10, 1930, on the family farm south of Webber, Kansas. He passed away on November 20, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Center, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years, 4 months, 10 days following a stroke which occurred in January 2018.

Paul attended first through eighth grade at Rose Hill School, a one-room stone schoolhouse which is now a part of Lovewell State Park. He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1948.

Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 8, 1951, during the Korean War. He completed technician school, specializing in radar installation and airborne navigation systems for all military aircraft. His active duty assignments took him to Biloxi, Mississippi; Denver, Colorado; Denison, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; Pittsburg, California; Okinawa, Japan; and Korea.

While stationed at Biloxi, Mississippi, Paul was united in marriage to Velda Arlene Hogue on March 22, 1951, in Gulfport Mississippi. Following his honorable discharge on October 8, 1954, Paul and Velda moved to her parents' farm southeast of Jewell, Kansas. In 1957, they moved to the current family farm southwest of Webber, Kansas. The union between Paul and Velda was blessed with three children: Jerry, Denise and Curtis.

Paul was a lifetime member of the Webber United Methodist Church. He served on the Webber Elevator Board and the Mankato USD 278 School Board. He was a member of the Kansas Angus Association and the American Angus Association. Paul raised and sold registered Angus cattle. His family spent several years actively showing registered Angus cattle at shows in Kansas and Nebraska.

Farming was Paul's lifetime passion. He had farms in the Jewell, Formoso, and Webber, Kansas, communities. During the 1960's and 1970's, he had a partnership doing custom wheat harvesting for farmers in the Lyons, Lincoln, Mitchell and Jewell County, Kansas, areas.

Paul took time from his farming operation to enjoy family activities. He spent countless hours helping his children with their 4-H projects. He regularly attended his granddaughters' sporting events. Paul enjoyed hunting and looked forward to the yearly visits from friends for pheasant hunting season. The family spent many years deer hunting together. Every summer he took the family on a vacation in a camper or motor home. They traveled through Canada several times and visited every state but Delaware and Hawaii. Their most exciting travel was the drive to the northern tip of Alaska.
