Christian Biography of Paul Edwards

Paul Richard Edwards, the son of Robert Clinton (CR) and Velma Leone (McKinney) Edwards, was born on April 16, 1930 in Webber, Kansas. He passed away on May 18, 2022 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 1 month, 2 days.

Paul grew up in Hardy attending Hardy Schools, graduating in 1948. On June 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Denelda "Dee" Hobelman at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska and to this union was born four children.

Paul was engaged in farming, he enlisted in the U. S. Army serving during the Korean war from 1951-1953, returning home, he farmed south of Hardy until 1959 when he purchased and ran the Hardy filling station until 1965. He and his brothers Bob and Russ bought Superior Bowl in 1963 and he enjoyed being a part of it until it sold in 1992. In the summer of 1965 he moved the family to Auburn where he sold insurance for Farm Bureau. He returned to Superior in 1971 and was employed at Superior Insurance Agency until 1984. His book of business stayed with him until sold in 1991. He purchased the Do Drop Inn in Hardy in 1984 and ran it for 10 years and then remained active in its running until 2016 when it was sold.

Paul was a member of the Auburn Jaycees, Country Club and Rescue Squad, and also the American Legion, VFW, Elks Lodge, Eagles, Masonic Lodge, Superior Country Club, and also served as the Mayor of Hardy for several terms.

He was active in coaching the American Legion Baseball team, he at one time was in partnership of a coyote hunting plane, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer and bowler. He was an accomplished gardener and was known for raising watermelon, sweet corn, and even a vineyard.

Enjoyed helping his sons-in-law farm and loved spending time with his grandchildren more than life itself. Paul was known for his gruff sense of humor and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked-and sometimes did!

Due to his health his resided at an assisted living in York from 2016 to 2020 then to Lincoln Memory Care until 2021, before making his home at Superior Good Samaritan Society.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Leone; wife Dee on March 11, 2017; great grandson Maurice Jered Rediger; siblings Elsie (Dale) Talent, Robert (Toby) Edwards, George Edwards, Russell Edwards, Donald Edwards, Norma (Elvin) Hobson, Larry "Bruce" Edwards, Emery (Ruth) Hobelman, Lyman Piepho, Mick (Eunice) Pittack, Kenneth (JoAnn) Hobelman and Susan Hobelman.

He is survived by his children, Kathryn Chatelain and husband David of Hemingford, Nebraska; Connie Moody and husband Joseph of Auburn, Nebraska; Steven Edwards and wife Denise of Geneva, Nebraska; and Kim Gebers and husband Thomas of Nelson, Nebraska; siblings Marilyn Edwards of Papillion, Lorelei Edwards of Geneva, Glenn (JoAnn) Edwards of Hardy, Joan Edwards of Superior, Margaret Tomlinson of Lincoln, Donna (Jim) Miller of Superior, Kenneth Edwards (Phyllis) of Sabetha, Ks, Jeanette Hobelman of Hebron, and Gene (Debra) Hobelman of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Myranda (Jered) Rediger, Jacob Chatelain, Kendall (Jon) Sunneberg, Todd (Jaki) Moody, Eric (Morgan) Moody, Amber (Dan) Taylor, Seth (Morgan) Gebers, Brette Gebers and Reese Gebers; twelve great-grandchildren Wade, Steele, Brandt, Blaike, Britten, Harrison, Clara, Braxton, Clayton, Brooke, Creighton and Willa; along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
