Christian Biography of Phyllis A. Young Peterson Vasconcellas
Phyllis A. Vasconcellas, the daughter of Hugh and Wilma (Hendry) Young, was born on August 18, 1917 in Superior, Nebraska. She passed away on March 13, 2016 at her home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 98 years, 6 months, 24 days.
Phyllis was one of 6 children. She attended school in Superior, graduating from Superior High School. On September 20, 1936, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Peterson at Superior, Nebraska and to this union 4 children were born. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1957 due to an auto accident. She later married Earl Vasconcellas in 1977 and he also preceded her in death on July 21, 1991.
During Phyllis' lifetime she lived in the communities of Superior, Nebraska; Brewster, Kansas; Kearney, Nebraska; Davis, California; Woodland, California; West Sacramento, California. She was a member of Rebekkah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary #8762, and the Superior Volunteer Fire Dept Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert and Earl; sons Billy Lee and Robert A. "Pete;" brother Dale Young, and infant brother Robert George Young; sisters Cecil Thompson, Evelyn Honeycutt and Elizabeth Gibson.
She is survived by her son James D. Peterson and wife Karen and daughter Elizabeth Sauce and husband Randy all of Superior, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor David Johnson officiating.
Music was recordings of "Precious Lord," "How Great Thou Art," and "Just A Closer Walk," and solos of "Rock Of Ages," and "Amazing Grace," with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Price as the organist, and solo by Randy Sauce of "Waltz Of The Angels."
Pallbearers were Steve Peterson, Chris Peterson, Ryan Barber, Lewis McKinney, Christopher Peterson, and Robert Peterson.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to go to Veterans Association of Donor's Choice.
