Ramon Marvin Aikin, one of two children of Dortha and Ralph Aikin, was born in Nelson, Nebraska on October 4th, 1934.

He enjoyed living in Nelson and returned often for visits with family and friends throughout his life. He was involved in high school sports including football, basketball, and track, where he achieved a long-standing record in the 440 relay. After graduating high school, he attended a year of college in Hastings and worked for a time at the Hastings Armory, after which he enlisted in the Navy and attended electronic school. In the Navy he worked on reconnaissance planes while stationed at Barbers Point on Oahu, Hawaii and Midway Island.

After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he returned to Nelson where he met the love of his life, Joan "Joanie" Peterson. They were married during a notable blizzard on December 27th, 1959 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin. They relocated to Norwalk, California in 1960, where he began a career in aerospace at Rockwell (later Boeing) in Downey. He worked on the Mercury and Apollo programs, the minuteman missile, and the communication and antenna systems for the Space Shuttle program.

In his retirement, he enjoyed road trips with his wife, Joan, in their fifth wheel trailer: they visited 48 states and enjoyed a coast-to-coast trip across Canada, accompanied by their dog, Toby. He was also an avid woodworker and crafter of stained glass.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marlene Peterson Aikin, in 2011, and his sister, Eileen Joy. He is survived by his two children, Rebecca Golda of Downey, California and Robert Aikin of Whittier, California; his five grandchildren, Mark Greer Golda, Joelle Leue, and Daniel Golda, and Ryan & Russell Aikin; and his 5 great-grandchildren, Nathan & Matthew Greer Golda, James & Azuria Leue, and Redmond Aikin.

Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska, with the celebration of his life held Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m. in the Nelson Cemetery, and led by his children, Rebecca and Robert.
