Christian Biography of Richard Miller

Richard "Dick" Miller, aka "The Miracle Man," died Friday, December 16, 2016 after contending with declining health. Dick was born September 5, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in Tekamah, Nebraska. His parents were Rex and Iva Chapman Miller.

Dick was a member of the Olive Hill Church for six years, along with his devoted wife, Janice (Jan) Giger. Dick and Jan moved to Superior six years ago and have made many friends while making their home here. Dick made quite an impact on those who knew him, especially since he was known as the "Miracle Man of 2016" last January. He was a living testimony for his faith in God and that he was looking forward to going "home" when the time came.

Dick used this year to tie up loose ends and to have as much time as possible with family. The most important thing he wanted to do was to celebrate his birthday in Spokane with his family. He and Jan also went to Arizona in February, Spokane in March and to Utah and back home to Superior. They took a two week vacation to Spokane, Utah and back to Superior, which was a 3,700 mile trip, and Jan actually got to drive two hours of the trip (which was a miracle in itself). He did not usually let Jan drive. Dick was on a mission! During Memorial weekend, Dick decided he wanted to go to his class reunion to say his final farewells, and to his parents' and grandparents' gravesite at the cemetery in Tekamah. They celebrated his 76th birthday in Scottsbluff at the Balloon Festival.

Dick enjoyed woodworking and making and fixing things. He was quite the handyman. He could fix anything. He also liked the great outdoors and water activities. He and Jan stayed many winters in Arizona and made many friends there. What he enjoyed most were the visits he had with his grandsons, Richie and Nicholas, when they would come to visit.

Dick's inner peace and joy were quite evident in his everyday demeanor. He shared his faith with everyone he saw. He talked about the "miracles" that he experienced. He was a living testimony to so many people. He looked forward to his trip home but was thankful for the added 1 ½ years to be able to share his testimony with others.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Jan; son, Richard A. Miller and wife Mary, Upland, California; daughter, Michelle A. Miller-Snyder and husband Jim, Spokane, Washington; two grandsons, Richard E. Miller, Omaha, Nebraska, and Nicholas A. Miller, Upland, California; sister, Priscilla Largen and her husband, Tom, Hamburg, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Carol Watters and husband, Dave, Superior.

There will be no services, per Dick's request.
