Christian Biography of Rodney A. Simonsen
Rodney Alan Simonsen, the son of Hubert and Virginia (Fuller) Simonsen, was born on January 11, 1949 in Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away on October 22, 2019 at the Kearney Regional Health Care Center at Kearney, Ne at the age of 70 years, 9 months, 11 days.
Rodney had five siblings growing up on the farm near Hardy. He was baptized by Pastor Immanuel Peterson at Bethany Lutheran Church and confirmed by Pastor Moyer at St. Paul's Lutheran. He attended Beach School District #44 and was a Hardy High School graduate.
Rod started his career as a farmer, working with his father, Hubert. On April 28, 1968, he married his wife Linda McLaughlin. Together, they were blessed with one son Jeremy. They later divorced. Rod worked for several area farmers while he was developing his own operation.
Besides farming, his other passion was tractor pulling. He was a member of Nebraska Bush Pullers, National Tractor Pullers, and Outlaw Tractor Pullers, traveling all across the country where he established numerous friends.
Due to his health he resided at Heritage of Red Cloud until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Virginia Simonsen.
He is survived by his son Jeremy of Lincoln, Nebraska; a special friend Kathy Boswell of Red Cloud, Nebraska; his siblings are Alicia Tracy and husband Ken of Kearney, Nebraska; Marcia Schultz and husband Randy of Ruskin, Nebraska; Gerald and wife Julie of Ruskin, Nebraska; Leslie and wife Monica of Hardy, Nebraska; and Reginal and wife Cheryl of Sutton, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
