Christian Biography of Ronald "Butch" Higer

Ronald "Butch" Elvan Higer, the son of Georgie and Shirley (Smith) Higer, was born on January 29, 1945 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on December 3, 2024 at the Brodstone Healthcare at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 10 months, 4 days.

In June of 2022, a friend made a trip from eastern Tennessee to baptize Butch. When his parents were custom cutting in western Nebraska at age 4, Butch contracted Polio which changed the trajectory of Butch's life. He acquired the ability to overcome obstacles by focusing on goals. As a child, he carried newspapers and was named "Star Carrier" one year for the Lincoln Journal Star.

Butch graduated Superior High School and took pride in keeping in touch with classmates throughout his life. Following high school, he continued farming with his dad and eventually bought his own farm ground. He helped his parents with the dairy farm and after the passing of his mom he bought the dairy and homeplace. He married Lynette Jackson on December 7, 1968, they were together for 25 years. They later divorced.

He enjoyed custom combining and took pride in his work. He kept in touch with some farmers he worked for which resulted in lasting friendships all the way to Australia and Wales. Butch then took the opportunity to visit each of those friends' countries. Friendship with David from Wales lasted more than 30 years with him coming to Superior on a surprise visit to see Butch.

On August 6, 1992, he was caught in a combine auger resulting in amputation of his lower left leg. This was the beginning of many hospital stays and multiple surgeries which led to the need for a wheelchair. The summer of 2022 he got an electric wheelchair which he loved, putting over 2,180 miles on it. He was also a survivor from a cancer diagnosis.

He liked dogs, telling jokes and pulling pranks. He made friends with anyone, no matter their status in life.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Mike Pearce.

Survivors include his siblings Ruth Pearce of Superior, Robert (Gina) Higer of Johnstown, Colorado, Cynthia Higer of Omaha, Curtis (Tlinda) Higer of Bolivar, Missouri and Gary (Juli) Higer of Savannah, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 3:00 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Danny Jackson officiating.

Recorded music selections were "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace" and "My Way."

Pallbearers were Danny Corman, Jared Fullerton, Jon Bruning, Daniel Higer, Jim Miller, Phil Miller and Steve Hiatt. Honorary Pallbearers were Kenny Corman, Larry Woerner, David Schnick and Jonah Brenneman.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

A local memorial will be established and may be given in care of the family.
