Rosemary Elaine (Sund) Anderson
Rosemary Elaine Anderson, daughter of George and Ruby (Kottmeyer) Sund, was born September 5, 1950, in Superior, Nebraska. She departed this life on October 31, 2026, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Rosemary was baptized on October 29, 1950 and confirmed May 3, 1964 at Salem Lutheran Church. She grew up near Bostwick, attending rural school through the eighth grade before graduating from Superior High School with the class of 1968. She then attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for two years, majoring in Home Economics. On June 13, 1970 she was united in marriage to Roy Anderson at Salem Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with four children, and they made their lifelong home on their farm north of Guide Rock.
Rosemary lived a life defined by faith, family, and a genuine desire to serve others. Her commitment to her church and community was evident in the countless ways she gave of her time and talents. At Salem Lutheran Church, she led Parish Education and volunteered as both a Sunday School teacher and confirmation instructor. Her community involvement extended to numerous boards, organizations, and committees, including Extension Club, Eastern Star, the Extension Board, School Board, and FSA County Committee.
Many summers, Rosemary could be found lending a helping hand in the concession shack at the Guide Rock ball field. She also founded the Warrior 4-H'ers 4-H Club in Guide Rock and served as its dedicated leader for more than 30 years. Even after stepping away from club leadership, her passion for 4-H and youth development never faded. She continued serving as a county fair superintendent and judging exhibits, including at the 2026 Nebraska State Fair.
Rosemary was also well known throughout the region for her beautiful and delicious cakes. From birthdays and graduations to showers, weddings, and anniversaries, her cakes were a cherished part of countless family and community celebrations. But her gift for caring for others extended far beyond the kitchen. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offering care and support to neighbors, relatives, and friends whenever it was needed.
All of this was accomplished while working side by side with Roy to build their farm and a respected Angus cattle operation and, most importantly, raise their four children. Together, they were active members of South Central Cattlemen, Nebraska Cattlemen, and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA), and they generously contributed their time and support to the Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska.
In her later years, Rosemary's greatest joy was found in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special gift for finding just the right birthday and Christmas gifts, knowing the right words to say, and making a phone call at just the right time. Her thoughtfulness and attention to the little things made each person in her life feel special and loved. She lived each day with a grateful heart and a servant's spirit, encouraging others to do the same.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Roy; her parents, George and Ruby Sund; her brother, George Sund Jr.; mother-in-law, Emma Anderson; father-in-law, Ralph Anderson; brother-in-law, Wayne Anderson; sister-in-law, Judy Anderson; sister-in-law, Peggy Anderson; and brother-in-law, Ralph Anderson Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Dawn Caldwell and husband Matt of Edgar; Chris Anderson and wife Neile of Hastings; Troy Anderson of Guide Rock; and Gail Martin and husband Jeremy of Wellfleet.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kaydee Alexander and husband Ty of Bloomfield; Emmet Caldwell and wife Morgan of Lincoln; Courtney Benscoter and husband Michael of Valentine; Alexis Anderson and husband Eli of Gothenburg; Zane Anderson of Guide Rock; Chase Martin and wife Lilee of Lincoln; and Regan and Kaitlin Martin of Wellfleet; and six great-grandchildren: Tate, Chloe, and Sage Alexander; Lane and Peyton Benscoter; and Charles Martin.
Also cherishing her memory are her brother, Jim Sund and wife Pam; her sister, Sharon Portenier and husband Kif; nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
A life of faith, a heart for service, and a love for family and community—Rosemary leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched.
