Christian Biography of Roy H. Kottmeyer
Roy Henry Kottmeyer was born at the home place near Bostwick, Nebraska on July 20, 1931, to Fredrick and Lydia (Mueller) Kottmeyer. He passed away October 24, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 84 years and 3 months. He was baptized August 16, 1931 and confirmed August 5, 1945 at Salem Lutheran Church rural Superior, Nebraska. He attended grade school at Sandy Knob School located at the southeast corner of the farm. He graduated from Superior High School in 1948.
Fulfilling his promise to his Father who died in June shortly after his high school graduation he took over the farm and helped care for his family. Following his brother Fred's high school graduation Roy served in the US Army from 1955- 1957, then returned to the farm.
He was a 4-H and FFA member, showing market steers at both the Nuckolls County Fair and Nebraska State Fairs. Once exhibiting the Champion Steer at the Nuckolls County Fair. He loved his cows, his horses and his dogs. He enjoyed coyote hunting with dogs and Rodeos.
He took his morning, mid-day and late afternoon tours around the area, each on its own route. The only variance being sometimes the route was reversed so the beginning became the end. On those tours he visited with anyone who would take the time to visit.
His last year was spent at the Good Samaritan Center at Superior following injuries from a vehicle accident July 20, 2014 a mile and a half from home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruby, and brothers Ray and Fred.
Left to say good-bye are sister Nancy Hall and husband Richard of Wymore, Nebraska, sister-in law JoAnn Kottmeyer of Broken Bow, Nebraska, as well as nieces and nephews and friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Salem Lutheran Church rural Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Kathryn Bates and Missie Wilt officiating.
Music was "Abide With Me," "He Leadeth Me," "On Eagle's Wings," and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," with Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Sonia Schmidt her accompanist.
Pallbearers were George Sund Jr., Evan Kottmeyer, Jared Kottmeyer, Rick Hall, James Hall, James Sund and David Rust. Honorary Pallbearers were Rosemary Anderson, Sharon Portenier, Kristin McAllister, Kimberley Oliver, Roland Shambaugh and Lester Wissing.
Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska
