Christian Biography of Soren J Thomsen

Soren J Thomsen, the son of Chris and Inger (Jensen) Thomsen, was born on February 16, 1921 in Bostwick, Nebraska. He passed away on July 19, 2017 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 96 years, 5 months, 3 days.

Soren attended rural Pleasant Ridge School and graduated from Superior High School. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1965. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethal Lutheran Church.  He entered the United States 3 rd Air Force on September 30, 1942 serving during WW II as an aircraft mechanic; he was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Grace Keith on November 25, 1943 at Lincoln, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two children Linda and Burton. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1995. Soren married Rosemarie "Rhea" Brown Kulek on January 5, 1996. Soren farmed for 41 years before retiring.

His hobbies included wood working, reading, playing cards and was a master gardener. He loved to tell jokes and talk, especially with his coffee buddies.  He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Elks, American Legion, and Salem Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Grace; brothers Ervin, Carl, and Esra and sisters Carla, Marie and Jean.

He is survived by his wife Rhea of Superior; daughter Linda (Lee) Daniels of Leawood, Kansas; and son Dr. Burton of Hampton, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren: Jonathan Thomsen, Kerri Thomsen Engelbrant, Brian (Jacy) Daniels and Sara (Daniel) Gardner; 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Naomi of Duluth Minnesota and Anna of Green Bay, Wisconsin; step sisters-in-law Melba Lynch and JoAnnette Kubicek; stepsons, Tom (Teresa), Steve (Peg) and Dave Kulek; step daughter Jeanette Bates; 10 step grandchildren; and 16 step great grandchildren;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 4:00 PM from the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Kathy Bates officiating.

Music was congregational hymns "The Strife Is O'er", "In The Garden," and "This Is My Father's World,"  with Sonia Schmidt as the organist.

Visitation was held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Pallbearers were Brian Daniels, Daniel Gardner, Tom Kulek, Steven Kulek, David Kulek, and Jon Thomsen. Honorary Pallbearers were John Miller, Neil Thomsen, Ron Thomsen, Sara Gardner and Kerri Engelbart.

Interment with Military Honors was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery at rural Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to Salem Lutheran Church or Brodstone Memorial Hospital.
