Christian Biography of Theresa Emma Marie Peters

Theresa Emma Marie Peters was one of seven children born to Bernhardt and Emma (Gebers) Marquart on a farm near Byron, NE on May 12, 1918. She died peacefully and passed away into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on March 7, 2013 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 23 days.

She and her twin brother, Lester, were baptized on May 26, 1918 by Pastor Schultz and confirmed on May 21, 1933 by Pastor L. Hoefer. Her memory verse was Revelation 19:9 – And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are true words that come from God. " Theresa attended and graduated 8th grade from Fairview County School, Thayer Country, District 88.

Theresa married Edward H. Peters on October 6, 1940 in St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Byron, by Rev. L. Hoefer. To this union three children were born, Larry, Rodney, and Marcia. Both Theresa and Edward were baptized and confirmed at St. Peter as were all their children.

Theresa was a homemaker, a lifelong and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, and a member of the Mary-Martha Circle. Her favorite pastime was quilting in her home, Senior Center and the church. For many years she especially delighted in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. A smile from the children as she taught was her reward. Her favorite Bible passage was taken from Isaiah 11:6…"and a little child shall lead them," and this became her favorite prayer….

Dear Lord, I do not ask that Thou shouldst give me some high work of thine, some noble calling or some wondrous task. Give me a little hand to hold in mine; give me a little child to point the way over the strange sweet path that leads to Thee. Give me a little voice to teach to pray; give me two shining eyes Thy face to see. The only crown I ask, dear Lord, to wear is this: that I may teach a little child. I do not ask that I may ever stand among the wise, the worthy or the great; I only ask that softly, hand in hand, a child and I may enter at the gate.

After the death of her husband, Edward, in 1975 she remained on the family farm until 1994 when she moved to Superior, Ne. Theresa is also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eddie, Wilbert, Lester, Raymond, one sister Lydia Dittmer, granddaughters Andrea and Elissa Loontjer, four sisters-in-law – Metha, Leona, Lorraine, June and one brother-in-law, Ed Dittmer. She is survived by her brother Dr. O.H. Marquardt of Alamogordo, NM and sister-in-law Hilda Marquart of Hebron.

She will be forever remembered by her children and their spouses: Larry and Gayle Peters, Weslaco, TX; Rod and Melanie Peters, Lincoln, NE and Marcia and Kenneth Loontjer, Cedar Park, TX; six grandchildren: Kimberly Peters (Tom) Coleman, Des Moines, IA; Christopher Peters, Schenectady, NY; Jessica Loontjer (Matt) Milner, Burleson, TX; Brian Peters, Bettendorf, IA; Steev (Greta) Hise, Tucson, AZ; and Allan (Jeannette) Hise, Folsom, CA; and seven great-grandchildren: Gretchen, Charles, Samuel and Grace Coleman and Grant, Drew and Reid Milner; a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, friends and loving caregivers Rhonda and Jim Jochim.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Byron, Nebraska with Breen Marie Sipes officiating.

Music was "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry," sung by Jeanette & Brad Krenke and congregational hymns "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," and "Children Of The Heavenly Father," with Crystal Krenke as the organist.


Visitation was held on Monday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM with family present to greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home and Tuesday 9:00 AM until services at the Church.

Pallbearers were Christopher Peters, Brian Peters, Tom Coleman, Matt Milner, Steev Hise and Allan Hise. Honorary Pallbearers were Scott Eitzmann, Stephen Heitmann, Kim Coleman and Jessica Milner.

Interment was in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Byron, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested the memorials go to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Parkview Haven Nursing Home.
