Christian Biography of Valdean Glenn Hiatt

Valdean Glenn Hiatt, the son of Glenn and Dora (Knigge) Hiatt, was born on January 9, 1926 on a farm near Bostwick, Nebraska. He passed away on December 27, 2016 at home in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 11 months, 18 days.

Valdean was educated in the Superior schools, and as a child he attended the Baptist Church. He was inducted into the United States Armed Forces on April 16, 1946 and honorably discharged on October 15, 1947 earning the WWII Victory and Japan Occupational Medals.

On March 18, 1960 he was united in marriage to Joan Larkins in Nelson, Nebraska and to this union 5 children were born. Valdean retired from Ideal Basic Industries where he was employed for over four decades as a locomotive engineer.

He loved his family and enjoyed attending and watching his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in all of their many activities. He was a huge sports fan and never missed a chance to watch a game or cheer on his favorite teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan on September 15, 1998; daughter Tresa Hiatt; his sister Donna Lane and husband Daryl and brothers-in-law Wilbur Mountford and Jerry Kinsey.

Survivors include his sons, Douglas Hiatt and wife Luella; Rick Hiatt and wife Chris; and daughters Tammy Korb and husband Doug all of Superior, Nebraska and Lesha Andersen and husband Mike of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother Darold "Spider" Hiatt and wife Loretta of Lincoln, Nebraska; and four sisters Betty Mountford of Raytown, Missouri, Sharon Oliver and husband Carl of Wamego, Kansas, Alice Kinsey of Mankato, Kansas, and Judy Mauler and husband Dale of Franklin, Nebraska; grandchildren: Billy (Kassie) Hiatt, Melissa (Brian) Bargen, Austin (Mallory) Andersen, Sierra (Roberto) Lorenzini; Heath (Sylvia) Korb, Jeromi (Vicky) Wagner, Amanda (Shane) Wagner-Alley, and Maddyson Korb; Johnnie and London Andersen; great grandchildren: Mason, Kaison, Kit, Keegan, Karah, Britni, Ashlei, Jarrett, Chase, Kimberly, Braxton, Amerah, Caymbrie, Jaxton, Kohl, Hannah and Korbett; and 2 great great grandchildren: Kylee and Gracin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:30 pm from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor David Coleman officiating.

Music was recordings of "Go Rest High on That Mountain," "Grandpa" and "Wind Beneath My Wings," with Carlita Price playing prelude selections.

Visitation was held on Thursday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Pallbearers were Heath Korb, Austin Andersen, Todd Mohler, Jeromi Wagner, Billy Hiatt, Shane Alley, Brian Bargen and Roberto Lorenzini. Honorary Pallbearers were Billie Dixon, Neil Larkins, Brad Biltoft, Dave Larkins, Steve Hiatt, Melissa Bargen, Maddyson Korb, Amanda Alley, Vicky Wagner, Sylvia Korb, Mallory Andersen, Sierra Lorenzini, Kassie Hiatt, Johnnie Andersen, London Andersen and Jered Kinsey.

Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the family.
