Christian Biography of Velda A. Dahl

Velda Arlene Dahl, the daughter of Floyd and Lillian (Flewelling) Hogue, was born on September 1, 1931, in Prairie Township in Jewell County, Kansas. She passed away on April 10, 2013 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas at the age of 81 years, 7 months, 9 days following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Velda attended first through eighth grade at Stately School, a one-room schoolhouse southeast of Jewell, Kansas. She graduated from Jewell High School with the class of 1949.

Velda was united in marriage to Paul Einar Dahl on March 22, 1951, in Gulfport Mississippi, while Paul was serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. During his active duty, they resided in Biloxi, Mississippi, Denver, Colorado and Denison, Texas. Following Paul's discharge in 1954, they moved to their parents' farm southeast of Jewell. In 1957, Paul and Velda moved to a farm southwest of Webber, Kansas, where Velda called home for the rest of her life.

The union between Paul and Velda was blessed with three children: Jerry, Denise and Curtis.

Velda joined the United Methodist Church in Jewell in 1955 and transferred her membership to the Webber United Methodist Church in April, 1968. Velda devoted her life caring for family members and being involved in their activities. She was an excellent cook, always preparing large family meals. Her favorite hobby was baking and decorating cakes and cookies for birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, flowers, rifle and archery hunting.

Velda was preceded in death by her brother, Ira Hogue, in 1937, her father, Floyd Hogue, in 1971, and her mother, Lillian Hogue, in 1990.

Velda is survived by her husband, Paul; sister, Ava Knarr of Jewell, Kansas; two sons, Jerry of Belleville, Kansas and Curtis of Webber, Kansas; daughter, Denise Behrends and husband Richard of Webber, Kansas; two granddaughters, Jessica Freeman and husband Adam of Salina, Kansas and Carrie Jeffery and husband Ross of Wichita, Kansas; two great-grandchildren Zachary Freeman and Allie Jeffery.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Roger Walls officiating.

Music was "In The Garden ", "Lily Of The Valley", "The Little Brown Church In The Lane", "You Light Up My Life" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord". Donna Diamond was soloist and Lynette Barley was organist.

Visitation was held on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Adam Freeman, Ross Jeffery, Brett Behrends, Matthew Becker, Nick Becker and Joel Knapp.

Interment was in the Webber Cemetery at Webber, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Webber United Methodist Church.
