Biography of Verla Ruth Snyder

Age 99, a homemaker and retired teacher, went to be with Jesus on Friday, November 20, 2015. Verla was born April 18, 1916 on the family farm south of Ohiowa, Nebraska to A.Otha & Florence Wood, one of four children.

She attended what is now Nebraska Wesleyan and received her teaching certificate, and taught in Valparaiso and finally at Oak. She married Vernon J. Snyder on August 6, 1941, and they were blessed with three daughters and a son. They were married almost 62 years.


During her life she enjoyed attending church and Bible study, her garden, reading, garage sales, as well as spending time with her family.

Verla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon; brother Walter Wood, sister Beth Kemper; son-in-law Melvin Gillette; Great-Grandchildren Ryker Gillette, Audrey Hoesel.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Dorothy Jean Meyer, Son Lee (Margaret), daughters Vesta, Sharon (Bob), and Belva; Grandchildren: Daniel, Dawn, Janine, Andy, David, Philip, Michael, Daniel, Trevor, Katelyn; Great-grandchildren: Suzanna, Janae, Alyssa, Aidan, Kaitlyn, Jeremiah, Elijah, Austin, Savannah, Olivia, Skye, Emily, and Sarah.
