Christian Biography of Willard L. Mettler
Willard Leroy Mettler, the son of Howard and Lauree (Warren) Mettler, was born on December 13, 1932 in Jewell County Kansas. He passed away on November 8, 2015 at the Harvard Rest Haven at Harvard, Nebraska at the age of 82 years, 10 months, 26 days.
He graduated from Lovewell High School, Lovewell, Kansas in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955; returning to farm with his dad, until purchasing his own farm in Jewell County.
He married Margaret (Tatro) Collins on August 6, 1966. She had 3 boys Vic, Chuck and Joe Sr.
Willard was a lifetime member of the Scandia American Legion, Scandia, Kanas, the Lovewell/Webber Methodist Church, transferring his membership, where he was very involved to Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center.
After he retired from farming, Willard worked for the Kansas State Wildlife and Parks for several years. The last 12 years he lived in Clay Center, Nebraska to be near his sister and brother-in-law. He drove the Clay County Senior Citizens bus. He was loved by his family, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He never met a stranger and had a wonderful smile; he was kind and never wanted hurt feelings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret on February 3, 1997; brother Don Mettler, step son Joseph Collins, Sr., and nephew Mark Mettler.
He will be missed by many but especially his older brother Steward Mettler and wife Viola; sister Janice Stratman and husband Raymond "Butch"; 2 nieces, 3 nephews, and 8 grandchildren.
Memorial service with Full Military Honors concluding the services were held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:00 am from the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, Nebraska with Pastor Kevin Whitmore officiating.
Music was "One Day At A Time," "In The Garden," and "Jesus Loves Me," sung by Wayne Johnson with Cheryl Green as the accompanist.
Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Collins, Mike Collins, Terry Collins, Kevin Collins, Les Stratman, Keith Mettler, Dana Mettler, Phyllis Mettler-Moulton, and Stacey Stratman-Warner.
Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, rural Webber, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Clay Center Christian Church.
