Christian Biography of William E. Dixon
William Eugene Dixon, the son of Virgil and Acena (George) Dixon, was born on December 15, 1928 in Bostwick, Nebraska. He passed away on December 3, 2016 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 11 months, 18 days.
Bill grew up in the Bostwick area attending grade school thru the 8th grade. In October of 1945, Bill started working at the Ideal Cement Plant in Superior. On March 20, 1951, Bill was inducted into the armed services at Omaha, Nebraska. He was stationed in Korea, receiving the Korean Service Medal with 2BZ Camp Stars and a UN Service Medal. His duty ended December 19, 1952 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He served a total of 21 months in the army, returning to Superior to continue his job at the Cement Plant, retiring in January of 1994.
On December 8, 1950 Bill was united in marriage to Katherine Rose Larkins at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Fairbury, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 6 children. Bill was a member of the VFW and American Legion Clubs in Superior. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending summers camping at the lake and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Katherine on April 27, 2005; siblings Agnes Imhoff, Virgil Dixon, Ella Messersmith, Robert Dixon, and Mary York.
Survivors include his children: Diana Kranau and husband Victor of Superior, Nebraska, Linda Eggers and husband Mark of Ruskin, Nebraska, William Dixon of Hildreth, Nebraska, Debra Jetensky and Curtis Schiermeyer of Nelson, Nebraska, Mary Utter and husband Neal and Barbara Woerner and husband Duane all of Superior, Nebraska; sister Carol Gergen; 11 grandchildren: David Amack and Beth, Amanda Foreman and husband Travis, Amy McGee, Stephanie Young and husband Angel, Valerie Weinert and husband Allen, Lesha Eggers-Koch, Jenny Garen and husband Ross, Tony Jetensky, Angela Hanel and husband Brock, Aadel Bussinger and Vanessa Pruitt; 17great grandchildren: James and Jeremy Foreman, Hayden Weinert, Joshua Bertrand, MacKenzie and Konner Garen, Angel and Zoee Young, Caleb Amack, Natalie and Ashley Abrams, Makenna, Aiden and Trevin McGee and Riley Pedersen, and Maddy and Gage Hanel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating.
Music was "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Wind Beneath My Wings," solos by Stephanie Thayer with Carlita Price as her accompanist.
Pallbearers were Rick Hiatt, Doug Hiatt, Denny Mohler, Sam Mohler, David Rust, Neil Larkins, and Dave Larkins. Honorary Pallbearers were David Amack, Amanda Foreman, Amy McGee, Stephanie Young, Valerie Weinert, Lesha Eggers-Koch, Jenny Garen, Tony Jetensky and Angie Hanel.
Interment with Full Military Honors was in the Bostwick Cemetery at Bostwick, Nebraska.
